Iwo Jima Memorial/Roosevelt Island

Jenna and Morgan went shopping with Kristi and Martha a couple of Saturdays ago, so the Little boys went for a trip down to the Iwo Jima Memorial and Roosevelt Island just across the river from DC.

The pictures of DC are from the Iwo Jima Memorial, a really nice view of the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the Capital building all together!

Here are some pictures of the trip. The lions are a gift from the Netherlands as thanks to the US for help during the war. They are at the base of the Carillon tower the Netherlands gave as a gift.

Drew took the picture above of Ethan and I. Not too bad for a 3 year old!

Roosevelt Island has natural trails to hike around the island on the Potomac river. You have to hike across a bridge to get to the island. In the center of the island is a memorial to Theodore Roosevelt. It was nice except that every flight landing in Reagan National Airport seems to fly over it just before landing. Yeah, it was really loud.

DC Trip

Ethan, Drew and I headed down to DC Saturday morning. It was boys morning out, so Mom and Morgan could have some girl time.

We parked by the tidal basin across from the Jefferson Memorial. Just as we got out of the car, an Osprey hit the water and came back up with a fish and flew away. Ethan was like wow! That was awesome, did you see that bird?!

We walked over to the Natural History Museum to check out the dinosaur bones and all the cool exhibits. We have been there a few times and take-in some of the exhibits each time. This time we hit the dinosaurs (always a favorite) and then headed to the Western Culture exhibit where we could see the Mummies. Ethan is all about Mummies these days.

We had some lunch on the Mall and then headed back. Home for the afternoon. We had a good time!
